Nourish was inspired by Shadrach’s time in residence at Spadina House, and his observations of the original bucolic paintings found in the home and the actual orchard on the grounds. It celebrates the connection that many Black people have with the land, and asks viewers to consider the action of hand-picking apples with liberty, for ones own benefit as opposed to the enslaved experience.
